A standard water meter is an instrument used to measure water flow.
It is primarily composed of a meter case, a measuring mechanism, a counter, and other components. Water enters the meter through the inlet and flows through the impeller and other internal parts of the measuring mechanism. The water flow drives the impeller to rotate, with the impeller’s rotational speed proportional to the water flow rate. The counter is connected to the impeller via gear-driven transmission mechanisms, and the impeller’s rotation causes the counter to record the volume of water that has passed through.
The advantages of conventional water meters are their simple structure, low cost, and high stability, which enable them to meet basic water consumption measurement needs. However, they also have certain limitations: for instance, water usage data can only be obtained through manual on-site meter reading, which is time-consuming and labor-intensive; moreover, they cannot promptly detect abnormal water-use patterns, such as pipe leaks, making it difficult to identify such issues in a timely manner.
This type of water meter is widely used in residential buildings, small commercial premises, and other settings, making it one of the most commonly employed instruments for measuring water consumption.
